Defective MagSafe Power Cords |
Long-time Apple users have struggled through those Mag-Safe T-shaped
chargers that fray easily, forcing them to twist and turn the cord just
to make it work. A class actuion suit has been filed against Apple and
the verdict is recently announced in the complainants’ favor. This
forces Apple to either replace those defective MagSafe power cords or
pay hug sums to the plaintiffs.
Apple tried to allieviate the problem in 2006 with the introduction
of magnetic power cords, which ideally would stop damaging the charging
port in an event users trip over the cord. However, it only lead to
more problems because the T-shaped adapters still end up fraying.
Apple users will have until March 21, 2012 to file a cash claim, or until December 31, 2012 to get a free replacement.
Bring the damaged T-shaped charger into the Apple Store or an official
Apple partner store and ask for a replacement. The catch is that the
claim would be invalid if the charger would show any signs of
“accidental damage.” The cas claim only covers MacBook owners in the
United States for now. Meanwhile, owners of the L-shaped Mag-Safe
charger should not worry about fraying issues.
